Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2006 Year

Meeting of the 20 December 2006

The Meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 20 December 2006. The Agenda consisted of 55 items.

At the commencement of the Meeting, Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli singled the issue of energy out of the pressing issues of the recent period. He said: we've been working for a few years to diversify the sources of energy supply to Georgia. The talks in Turkey over gas supply, in which Minister of Economic Development of Georgia Giorgi Arveladze and Minister of Energy Nika Gilauri are participating, will be completed soon. Technical details are being specified now. It is worth mentioning that President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has also joined the negotiations.

The Prime Minister of Georgia noted that Shah-Deniz Gas Pipeline would be launched from the end of that week and that would be a very important stage in terms of diversification of the supply of energy resources to Georgia, and in the following year Azerbaijani would the chief source of gas supply to Georgia.
