Prime Minister’s visit to Estonia and Latvia Print Version

Prime-Minister of Georgia Nika Gilauri and the Prime-Minister of Latvia Valdis DombrovskiOn September 14-15, 2009 the Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri was on his official visit in the Republic of Estonia.

Nika Gilauri met the Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip.

"Estonia is a country supporting Georgia in Europe and in the European Commission, as well as other international organizations. Furthermore, Estonia was always one of our strategic partners.

As per visa agreement, currently we start the final stage with Europe. Very soon we should carry on talks regarding free trade agreement, and, therefore, we need support of all countries", said Nika Gilauri after the meeting with the Estonian Prime Minister.

During his visit the Georgian Prime Minister met the Chairman of Estonian Parliament Ene Ergma and the President of the Republic of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves. According to the Estonian President, Estonia supports Georgian territorial integrity and sovereignty and hopes the Abkhazia-and-South Ossetia's conflict will be settled amicably and democratically.
According to Nila Gilauri, the meeting with the President was mainly focused upon Georgia-EU relations.

Within the scope of the visit the Georgian Prime Minister delivered a speech at the Business Forum held in Tallinn. Nika Gilauri also delivered a lecture to Business Scholl students where he referred to reforms effected in Georgia, as well as the Russian intervention and problems raised as the result of the Russian aggression.

From Estonia the Georgian Prime Minister went to the Republic of Latvia.

September 16, Nika Gilauri met the Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis. The Georgian Prime Minister also attended opening of the first session of Georgia-Latvia Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation. He also took part in Latvia - Georgia Business Forum. Moreover, the Georgian Prime Minister met the President of the Republic of Latvia Valdis Zatlers.

"We talked about Georgia- EU and Georgia-Latvia relations. Furthermore, we took part in Business Forum. Plus the First Intergovernmental Commission was held where problems were discussed. I believe that Georgian and Latvian businessmen will see eye to eye with each other for sure, said the Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri.
