Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2011 Year

Meeting of the Government as of December 8, 2011

Meeting of the Government as of December 8, 2011 On December 8, 2011 was held the meeting of the Georgian Government. The agenda included 77 items.

Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister of Georgia talked about education and healthcare fields. We present the Prime Minister's speech:

"Good day. Healthcare and education are two most important directions of the 10-Point Plan. At the beginning of the year, we declared that we would propose very many reforms to the public in these two directions, and now we have received results of this.

We have proposed different vision to the public in healthcare field. The state and insurance sector have worked together. Private sector and insurance sector have constructed new clinics; the State has made certain contribution to this. As a result, we will have 150 new hospitals in Georgia by the end of the next year.

More than 40 hospitals have already been opened. During December, we are opening 30 new hospitals and clinics mainly in regional centers, although, 3-4 clinics will be opened in Tbilisi, by the end of the month as well. Accordingly, our society will feel results of these reforms from the next year.

We have proposed important changes in education field to the public as well. We have had certain changes, reforms at school level: for the purpose of encouraging teachers, in certification direction, for the purpose of encouraging the principals. We have implemented certain changes at universities as well.

I would like to propose the reform designated for students studying at non-accredited universities. There are 30-35 universities left, which do not satisfy requirements set forth by the Ministry of Education. Accordingly, education level is low in these universities. The problem of several thousand young people studying in these universities is that diplomas rewarded to them will be recognized neither in Georgia, nor by the international education society.

By means of the change proposed by us, education for these young people will be simplified. We will try that they enter accredited universities where education level is high."
