Government of Georgia – Prime Minister's Visits 2012 Year

The Prime Minister visits Japan

On June 27-29, 2012, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Giluri, paid a working visit to Japan.

During his visit in Japan, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Giluri, met with the Prime Minister of Japan, Yoshihiko Noda.

The Prime Ministers discussed economic cooperation between the two countries and investment projects.

"We had interesting and good meetings with representatives of Japanese government: We have met with the Prime Minister, the Ministers of Economy, the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Tourism. Two issues are to be discussed. Of course, one of them is political support, and the other is economic relations. Politically, we may say that Japan is one of the most important supporters of our territorial integrity and sovereignty. With a view to trade, it may be said that it is the most important partner for us. When we say that Georgia has formed as a regional center, that one of the main products imported in Georgia is cars, these cars come from Japan and are mainly produced by Toyota. Respectively, Japanese companies have already examined Georgia as a very important economic partner, as well as a very important trade partner", Nika Gilauri pointed out after his meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan.

The Prime Minister of Georgia met with representatives of business circles of Japan as well.

According to Nika Gilauri, "Japanese companies have already declared that Georgia is a very important economic partner, as well as a very important trade partner."

"They import their products in Georgia and then sell them in the whole region: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Central Asia. The next stage is to manufacture products in Georgia. This is important that except for the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Europe Development Bank, one more Japanese investment bank is quite active in Georgia, making investments in infrastructure. This is Jaika, which will fund a $200 million project this year. This is about road infrastructure, Zestaponi-Samtredia. Apart from this, we may expect funding in road infrastructure towards Larsi from Japanese side", the Prime Minister added.
