Georgian Prime Minister’s visit to Israel

Georgian Prime Minister visits IsraelPrime Minister of Georgia paid a visit to Israel on June 24-25. Georgian delegation included Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maia Panjikidze, Minister of Economy Giorgi Kvirikashvili, State Minister on Diaspora Issues Konstantine Surguladze, Advisor of the Prime Minister Gia Khukhashvili, Investment Agency director Giorgi Pertaia.

On June 24, the Prime Minister of Georgia met with the President of Israel face to face. The parties Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili and President of Israel Shimon Peresdiscussed prospects of deepening existing multisided relations and cooperation between the two countries. Conversation referred to the importance of development of commercial-economic cooperation, energetic and cultural relations between Georgia and Israel.

As the Prime Minister of Georgia commented, Jewish people are distinguished with talent and it is necessary to deepen the centuries-long relations between the two countries even more. For its Part, Shimon Peres thanked Bidzina Ivanishvili for his visit.

After the end of the meeting, a working dinner was held, which was attended by members of Georgian delegation and officials of the State of Israel.

The parties talked about the issues of partnership cooperation between the two countries. The Prime Ministers discussed quite topical issues of bilateral, as well as regional and international importance. At the meeting, it was decided that Israel and Georgia will develop cooperation in different directions. After the meeting, the document of cultural cooperation between the two countries was signed.

The prime Minister of Georgia met with Knesset speaker, Yuli Edelstein. The parties talked about deepening partnership relations between the two countries and agreed that relation is to be activated between the Parliaments of the two countries. The conversation also referred to issues of cooperation in Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili and Knesset speaker Yuli Edelsteinthe fields of agriculture and making investments. According to Yuli Edelstein, development of bilateral relations is very important, as this is no secret that friendship of Georgia and Israel counts many centuries.

"We can already sum up results of the visit. I had friendly meetings with the President as well as the Prime Minister of Israel and representatives of Knesset. We drew much attention to the issues of deepening relations between Knesset and Georgian Parliament. Relations must be deepened between parliamentary groups of the two countries," Bidzina Ivanishvilli declared. Bidzina Ivanishvili met with other members of Knesset, opposition leader, Shelly Yachimovich and Avigdor Lieberman. The parties talked about deepening relations between parliamentary groups. The meeting has been attended by members of Georgian delegation as well.

The Prime Minister visited the Holocaust Museum. He laid a wreath of flowers at the memorial of Holocaust victims located at the mountain of Jerusalem - Yad Vashem - expressing his respect to the memory of Holocaust victims.

During his visit in Israel the Prime Minister of Georgia went to see old city of Jerusalem together withPrime Minister visited the Holocaust Museum other members of Georgian delegation and visited Wailing Wall. Bidzina Ivanishvili visited Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem and paid a visit to Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem. Ivanishvili congratulated his Holiness with coming St. John the Baptist birth holiday and thanked for warm hospitality towards Georgian clergymen. The Prime Minister prayed at Jerusalem Cross Monastery and visited Pater Noster monastery complex located on the Mount of Olive. Georgian delegation visited the place of the Lord's Prayer made in Latin transliteration during construction of the monastery and the Ascension of Our Lord and Savior on the Mount of Olive. After the Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili and Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalemvisit to the monastery, an opening ceremony of a board of prayer made in Georgian transliteration was held.

The Prime Minister's meeting with Jews who have emigrated from Georgia was held in Tel-Aviv. Meeting, which was held in warm and friendly environment, was attended by Georgian delegation. Bidzina Ivanishvili once more referred to multi-century tradition of Georgian-Jewish friendship and declared that such expression as "Georgian Jew" is a proof of such friendship.

Bidzina Ivanishvili attended Georgia-Israel business forum. The Prime Minister of Georgia introduced business environment of Georgia to businessmen and answered their questions.
