The meeting of Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili and the Head of Delegation of International Committee of The Red Cross (ICRC) Biljana Milosevic held today at the Administration of the Government, largely focused on the process of searching for people gone missing during the armed conflicts in Georgia, the operation of the coordination mechanism set up with the aforementioned goal and humanitarian programs implemented under the auspices of the ICRC.

The conversation touched upon the five-year strategy adopted by the ICRC that aims at identification of the location of individuals gone missing during the armed conflict, as well as searching and identification of the remains of such individuals and the transfer of remains to the family members. The head of the ICRC thanked the Prime Minister of Georgia for the active engagement of the representatives of various agencies in the process and discussed the prospects of deepening the cooperation.

During the meeting it was noted that as a result of cooperation, 2017 turned out to be the most fruitful in terms of searching the missing persons. Particular attention was paid to the fact that the budget allocated for the purpose of identification of the missing persons has almost tripled.

The Prime Minister thanked the ICRC for the efforts taken in terms of searching the missing persons and hoped that the cooperation will be even more fruitful in the future.
Lina Milner, the ICRC's regional coordinator for the missing persons issue, Sozar Subari, Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia and Maia Tskitishvili, the Head of the Administration of the Government attended the meeting.
