Government of Georgia – Appearance 2017

Statement by the Prime Minister of Georgia Print Version

2017-10-03

„Greatest injustice," - was an assessment made by Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili regarding the latest statements and actions of the opponents concerning the Tabori Project, which is funded by the Co-Investment Fund.
According to the Prime Minister, one thing is true - unprecedented project of a historical importance that will create a publicly available green space of unparalleled scale, 400 thousand sq. meters, with walking and running paths and recreation zone is being implemented in Tbilisi.

"I cannot find words to describe the events of the last few days. There is a notion of political dishonesty, there is a notion of human dishonesty and there is a line to all of it. We look at individuals who have crossed this line. I cannot even call them politicians, since they are obviously politicians of the past, followers of bankrupt party and a bankrupt leader, trying to draw attention by such lies and dishonesty," - the Prime Minister stated.

The head of Government commented on the demonstration held near the Tbilisi City Hall, when several individuals attempted to block and paralyze one of the most important roads for 4-5 hours. Prime Minister discussed the need of better protection of the public order.

"According to them, Bidzina Ivanishvili wants to misappropriate Pushkini Square. In reality, the discussion concerns the construction of an underground parking area near Pushkini Square. Today Tbilisi City Hall has to search for people ready to construct 10 parking areas in Tbilisi, since there are no parking spaces in this city. Unfortunately, parking space industry did not become a business, since its cost is not comparable to the prices we see in the leading cities across the world; therefore, we need parking spaces. On absolutely non-profit basis, this person is constructing the parking space on an area that is twice as large as a hotel that is being built nearby will need. They also claim that Ivanishvili wants to misappropriate the Botanical Garden. In reality, the space in question is adjacent to the Botanical Garden that covers an area of several hundred sq. meters and it will be used to ensure that the sunbaked slopes between Botanical Garden and Tsavkisi are extensively greened and irrigated. Everything, including a lie has its limits. I believe that our population sees that very well," - Giorgi Kvirikashvili noted.

According to the Prime Minister, the cascade of lies started in 2011 and still continues. The head of the Government noted that initially, the ruling party was represented to be a pro-Russian force, however, they failed to convince anyone in this, since the largest achievements of the Government are linked to pro-Western orientation, including Association and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreements with the EU and Strategic Cooperation Agreement with the US - the relations with latter have never been as intense as they currently are.

"Today they are broke and cannot accomplish anything. They try to draw attention to themselves and came up with these two corrupt lies, but our population sees this. I would like to address the members of our team - when the truth is on your side, you have to say it more boldly. No one has to feel shy about saying the things that we are discussing right now. We are talking about an investment worth over a billion GEL. We need investors and I believe that it will be wrong to remain quiet and not defend an investment just because it involves Bidzina Ivanishvili. Using these investments, we employ 20 000 people in Tbilisi, Guria, Samegrelo, Adjara. The overall amount of the investment exceeds 680 million USD, this is over a billion and a half GEL and should we stop this investment and block the city just because five politicians with neurosis are flashing their eyes and shouting?!" - stated the Prime Minister.

The head of the Government emphasized the differences between the current and previous authorities and indicated that the opponents are struggling fiercely, however, their return is impossible, since the people can see everything.

"We as well, as politicians, have to try to help show this truth as much as possible. I would like to address the members of our team and encourage them a bit - truth is on our side. We have nothing to justify ourselves for. Nothing is perfect, sometimes, everything goes up, sometimes there are certain holdbacks, but the path selected by our government is right. Let's be a bit bolder when telling the truth to our population. This person, Bidzina Ivanishvili does not deserve what he is given back. This is greatest injustice and I would like to state that the truth will prevail. Only one thing is true - unprecedented project of a historical importance is being implemented, a project that will create a publicly available green space of unparalleled scale, with an area of 400 thousand sq. meters, with walking and jogging paths and recreation zone in Tbilisi and neither I, nor any other member of our team will ever agree to consider the ideas of politicians with neurosis and discard this plan," - the Prime Minister noted.
