Prime Minister’s Comment on Tbilisi Sakrebulo Assembly Events Print Version

The time of lies and deception to mislead our citizens ended in our country in 2012, and we cherish this achievement, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili commented during today's meeting of the Government on yesterday's events occurring in front of the Tbilisi Sakrebulo Assembly.

According to the Prime Minister, the opposition's radical segment is trying to paint a deceptive picture of peaceful and stable environment ahead of the upcoming elections being supposedly threatened. The population, however, sees for itself that it is a lie.

"Concerning yesterday's commotion in front of the Sakrebulo Assembly, I would like to state that the whole population, and not just us, saw that the real goal of one radical segment of the opposition is to create an impression as though something were undermining stable and peaceful elections, as though they were prevented from expressing their view. I believe everyone saw it for what it is, a lie. The law enforcements' actions were in full compliance with the law and prevented the provocateurs from sabotaging the Sakrebulo Assembly's session yesterday. I would like to let everyone know that our state respects human dignity and fundamental rights, and we will not let anything compromise the stability we have ushered in, and this we surely can accomplish. We heard all kinds of lies yesterday, as though the meeting had been closed, yet it was televised live; or attempts to pass off as a crime one of the most strategic and important investments in our capital. I think that everyone sees through these lies and the attempts of those people do not and cannot have any prospects in the future. I want them to know that the time when they successfully manipulated public opinion with lies is over," the Prime Minister of Georgia emphasized.
