Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia congratulated the Jewish people with Hanukkah today.

Head of the Government symbolically lit the first candle in the main synagogue of Tbilisi.

Prime Minister of Georgia emphasized the 26-century-old friendship of Georgian and Jewish people and wished peace, prosperity and development to the celebrating nation.

"This day is a symbol of victory for the Jewish people. On this day, when the Jewish people light a candle, it is a symbol of hope that one can overcome everything being united. The brotherhood and friendship of the Georgian and Jewish people count 26 centuries.This is a completely unique event in the history of the mankind. Georgian Jews have always been an integral part of the Georgian state, " stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Head of Government of Georgia expressed hopes that friendship between Georgian and Jewish people will soon be recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage, because this relationship and brotherhood is exemplary for everyone.

Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony was also attended by Members of the Government of Georgia, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia and Mayor of Tbilisi. \
