Significant steps made by Georgia towards EU integration were one of the key topics discussed by Peter Eriksson, Minister of International Development Cooperation of Sweden with Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia.

Discussions were related to the measures implemented in the recent decade within the scope of Eastern Partnership. As Head of Government of Georgia noted, 10 years have passed since the establishment of Eastern Partnership with an initiative of Sweden and this anniversary is celebrated in a special way.

Process of EU integration of Georgia was discussed at the meeting. In the opinion of the Prime Minister of Georgia, relations with EU are at all times high level and a meeting held on November 21st last year had a special role in the current trend of developments. At the referred meeting EU created a most high level format solely for Georgia and Prime Minister also noted that Government of Georgia has developed a Road Map to facilitate a further approximation of the country with EU structures.

Focus at the meeting today was made on the performance of Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). Prime Minister of Georgia expressed his gratitude towards the visiting official for the support demonstrated by SIDA towards institutional and capacity building of Georgia.

Transition to a new constitutional model of the country was also discussed at the meeting today. It was noted that Constitution of Georgia is a clear example of democratic development process witnessed in the country.

Focus was made at the human rights, security and current humanitarian condition at the occupied territories of Georgia. Peace initiative of the Government of Georgia labeled as a Step Towards Better Future, which aims to restore trust among the affected population and peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Discussions were also related to the wide-scale reforms implemented in the education sector, energy and green economy, along with the significance of sharing the Swedish experience.
