PRIME MINISTER OF GEORGIA VISITS A NEWLY REHABILITATED CAFE OCTOPUS IN BATUMI BOULEVARD Print Version

Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia visited the newly rehabilitated Café Octopus today and inspected the actual works carried out in the Boulevard of Batumi.

Rehabilitation works at Café Octopus commenced in May 2017 and were carried out with support of the Cartu Foundation.

Building with a mosaic surface was modeled according to the blueprints of the architect Giorgi Chakhava and sketches of the painter Zurab Kapanadze. Artist-restorator Ilya Pesvianidze worked on the actual rehabilitation of the Octopus.

Head of Government of Georgia expressed his gratitude to Cartu Foundation for recovering the Octopus.

"I wish to congratulate every resident and visitor of Batumi with the rehabilitation of its coastline landmark Octopus. For over years it was a preferred destination for many residents of the city. I wish to express my enormous gratitude to Cartu Foundation for restoring the Café Octopus and congratulate every resident of Batumi with this special day" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Head of Government of Georgia viewed a photo imagery exhibited at the site of the event depicting memories of Old Batumi and Octopus.

Within the scope of a wide-scale initiative, figurative sculptures have been done anew, mosaics laid afresh, fountain restored at the adjacent area and access pathways arranged. Isolation works were carried out to protect the building from sea water and original exterior has been maintained.
