Government of Georgia – Appearance 2008

Prime Minister of Georgia Grigol Mgaloblishvili Meets with Donors

On 11 December 2008, Prime Minister Grigol Mgaloblishvili met with donors in the Chancellery of the Government of Georgia. At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister greeted with the audience and stated that a joint working group of the Government of Georgia and donors had been formed two weeks before.

"The decision and the pledge of aids made at Brussels Donors Conference came as a stride forward. However, considering the current world financial crisis as well as the challenges that we are facing, to effectively meet them, it is critical to ensure coordination between the donors and the Government. In fact, we are working as one group. The aid must be directed in a coordinated manner. Besides, it is equally important to make sure that our society, the representatives of a civil society have information on how much money has been raised and obtained and what we are promising them for the next few months," the Prime Minister said.

As a result of the talks and agreements following the Brussels Conference, Georgia has already raised 602 mln US dollars. We are expecting to raise 332 mln US dollars in the nearest future. Besides, there are negotiated agreements to raise 1815 mln US dollars. These funds will be spent on rehabilitation of roads, energy and other infrastructure projects. In all, the projects of 2750 mln have been negotiated.
