Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2007 Year

Meeting of December 19, 2007

On December 19, 2007 was held the Meeting of the Government of Georgia. The agenda consisted of 39 items.

In the beginning of the Meeting the Prime Minister of Georgia Vladimer Gurgenidze stated that among the items on the agenda the most important is the draft State budget for 2008. He said that the draft budget is the result of the long-term analytical work and its provides all new social programs which have been made public by the Governmental team within the last some weeks. We do not provide any promises but we are working as the single political team together with its leader and these promises are our new social policy, all those programs which are aimed at the progress of our country, elimination of poverty in Georgia, solution of problem of unemployment, growth of export, development of economy etc. Notwithstanding a new social program which is reflected in the draft budget in full, notwithstanding the pause we have had in attraction of investment amounts, the Government of Georgia have succeeded, though symbolically, to draft the 2008 state budget with surplus, in compliance with all international standards except for the humanitarian standard of the International Monetary Fund.

I would like to repeat once more that this surplus is a symbolic one and amounts to 275000 GEL but this is for the first time in Georgia and I would like to welcome this fact, - stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.
