Prime Minister’s visit to the Great Britain and the USA Print Version

Prime minister Nika Gilauri at the Business Forum INVEST IN GEORGIAOn November 25-29, 2009 the Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri was on his visit in the Great Britain.

The Prime Minister Nika Gilauri introduced the British businessmen with the economic policy of the Georgian government and the investment environment of the country at the Business Forum "INVEST IN GEORGIA" opened in London.

The Prime Minister stated that the people present at the forum were "the persons willing to invest their money in Georgia. They were much interested in putting questions to the Minister of Economy and Energy. And they had this chance today".

"It is vitally important to have close contact with investors. They are the persons who have already invested their money in Georgia and a part of them holding Eurobonds", said Nika Gilauri.

In his interview with the Roiters Agency the Georgian Prime Minister one again stated that Georgia was a safe place for investments. According to the Prime Minister, very profitable investments can be carried in different sectors of the country. "Georgia has overcome the most difficult period of the world financial crisis. We intend attraction of up to 1-billion dollar foreign investments in Georgia in 2010 that will still more improve the economic situation in the country. All economic factors are being improved. The economic situation was involved in the improvement-oriented process even in spring and we expect better factors in future. We are well aware of the geo-political situation which can have negative impact on business development. Therefore, we created a system which makes the Georgian business environment attractive. Georgia is a safe place for foreign investments and this fact was again proved after the 2008-year war', said Nika Gilauri.

Prime minister Nika Gilauri and the EBRD President Thomas MirowWithin the framework of the visit, the Georgian Prime Minister met Chairman of Foreign Affairs Select Committee of the British Parliament Mike Gapes, Minister for Europe Chris Bryant, EBRD President Thomas Mirow and the Shadow Defence Secretary of Great Britain Liam Fox.

The Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri also met a representative of Liberal Democrats Shadow Foreign Affairs Edward Davey, Shadow Foreign Secretary William Hagues and Shadow Minister for Europe Mark Francois.

From the Great Britain the Georgian Prime Minister went to the United States of America. Nika Gilauri delivered a speech at the business conference "GEORGIA INVESTMENT" held in New-York. Representatives of the western business circle were present at the conference.

According to the Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri, the global crisis is one of the factors reducing investment amounts. And thus, the Government has to be more active to attract investments.
