Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2009 Year

Meeting of the Government as of October 30, 2009

The Meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 30 October 2009. The agenda comprised 29 items.

Before discussing the items of the agenda, Prime Minister of Georgia Nika Gilauri focused on the issues of public concern.

"The first issue is the situation in connection with World Trade Organization. The Organization has asked Georgia to comply with the standards that it has. We are going to discuss the issue today. It's about the locally manufactured products tobacco and cigarette and a change of excise on them. I'd like to ask the Minister of Finance to inform the public about the final conclusion after the end of the Government Meeting.

The other issue that is equally important is about customs rates. The Minister of Finance is going to inform us about the matter today. I assigned the Minister of Finance to review the customs rates. On the first stage, I'd like to say that out of three different customs rates we'll leave only two. At present, we have o%, 5% and 12% customs rates. Only two of them - o% and 12% - will be retained. The 5% rate will no longer exist and the most part of it will be zeroed. This is a positive change for business and economy. We'll be discussing the matter today and will propose changes in the Tax Code to the Parliament of Georgia in the nearest future," Nika Gilauri said.
