Interagency Commission for the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Children’s Rights Issues convenes at the Government Administration Print Version

Today, a regular session of the Interagency Commission for the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Children's Rights Issues was held at the Government Administration. The meetings discussed progress, challenges, and plans for combatting child abuse.

The commission reviewed the status of the implementation of recommendations from the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child concerning child abuse, also challenges facing each agency, and possible ways of solving them. Special emphasis was placed on measures planned for near future, namely upgrading the child referral mechanism, development of a pilot project on psychosocial services for child victims of sexual abuse, and enhancing the qualifications of professionals operating in this sphere.

The meeting's participants included Commission Chairperson, the Head of the Human Right Secretariat, the Prime Minister's Human Rights Adviser, Deputy Public Defender of Georgia, representatives of the UNICEF, and persons with deliberative voting rights. Representatives of NGOs joined the meeting in the videoconference format.

The Interagency Commission for the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Children's Rights Issues was established based on the Georgian Government's December 13, 2016 Decree #550. The commission seeks to coordinate the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and to foster the fulfillment of Georgia's international and national children's rights obligations.
