Visit of the Prime Minister to Norway

The Prime Minister of Georgia paid an official visit to Norway.

Within the framework of the visit, Nika Gilauri met with the Prime Minister of Norway, Jens Stoltenberg, and the Minister of Energy.

As the Prime Minister of Georgia pointed out, "(Norway) supports Georgia to take several more steps toward relationship with NATO."

"If we take into consideration that Georgia is one of the main participating countries in Afghanistan, as well as the reforms having already been implemented in Georgia, Norway will of course support this. In September of the current year, construction of new hydro power plants will be started by Norwegian company. This is a cascade of three hydro power plants, and more than 600 million dollars will be invested in Georgia in total by one Norwegian company. Apart from this, there are state companies, such as Stratcraft and others, which are very serious potential investors in energy sector and we have a certain promise from the Prime Minister that Norwegian state companies will become interested in making investments in Georgia and they will have support from Norwegian government," stated Nika Gilauri.

The Prime Minister of Georgia delivered a speech at energetic conference held in Oslo. Nika Gilauri talked about fighting against corruption and supporting private investors.

"(Norway) is the only country (using) 100% of its hydroenergy, i.e. 100% of its demand is supplied by hydroelectricity elaborate in Norway. This is a country with greatest experience in constructing hydro power plants. One of the most experienced companies is in Norway. This is a country, which has already started looking towards Georgia and its hydroenergetic potential. One of the companies is starting construction of hydro power plant cascade in Georgia and respectively, it has quite great interest to make investments in Georgia," pointed out the Prime Minister after the energetic conference.

Apart from this, Nika Gilauri held a meeting with the Prince of Norway, Haakon Magnus. The Prince and the Prime Minister of Georgia talked about widening economic and cultural relations between the two countries. The heir of the King's Bench expressed his readiness for cooperation with Georgia and declared that he would visit Georgia for the purpose of getting acquainted with the country in the nearest future.
