Prime Minister's Statements at Today's Cabinet Meeting

Azerbaijan is Georgia's strategic partner, and it will not change no matter what, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated during today's Cabinet meeting.

The Head of Government, in commenting on the ongoing investigation by the Prosecutor's Office, urged everyone against politicizing this issue, in light of the country's interests.

"I must comment on the investigation by the Prosecutor's Office because, as you can see, attempts to politicize this issue continue, which is absolutely unacceptable. We all must remember that final conclusions must be drawn only after the investigation is finalized. This issue is so important, that the politicization of and political speculations around it, in any form, is simply detrimental to the country, hence absolutely unacceptable and impermissible. We believe that Azerbaijan is Georgia's strategic partner, and it will not change no matter what. And that is exactly why neither the fact that an investigation has been launched, which is Georgia's domestic affair, nor the circumstances revealed by the investigation, which we have already shared with our Azerbaijani colleagues, can undermine the strategic partnership between the two countries. And that must be emphasized. For the sake of the country's interests, I once again urge everyone against politicizing this issue," the Head of Government underlined.

In addition, maritime, logistics and trade, and IT companies qualified as "international companies" will enjoy tax cuts.

As the Prime Minister emphasized at the Cabinet meeting, companies in said sectors, should they qualify as "international companies," will enjoy reduced property (but not land), profit, dividend (full exemption), and income taxes, with profit and income taxes reduced to 5%.

According to the Head of Government, in light of the fierce global economic competition in the period of post-pandemic economic recovery, the Georgian Government offers enterprises an "international company" status, also putting in place a comfortable platform for international companies to work from Georgia.

"Today, we discussed concrete directions to create mechanisms for obtaining this status. Firstly, these will be maritime industry companies and IT firms. Both directions are important for developing the global economy and to Georgia, because transport and logistics are crucial sectors of our economy. In the same vein, we have serious IT resources that must be set in motion," Giorgi Gakharia said.

The Georgian Prime Minister, during today's Cabinet meeting, thanked Thea Tsulukiani for her extremely productive 8 years as Justice Minister and commended her personal contribution to the humanization of the judiciary.

"Allow me to list the directions in which Ms. Tsulukiani has made an exceptional contribution to the country's progress. These are the establishment of a restorative justice system, introduction of crime prevention mechanisms, adoption of resocialization and rehabilitation programs for defendants and convicts, and, most importantly, steps taken toward the humanization of the judiciary as a whole. Besides, we must also remember that, presently, Georgia has one of the best juvenile codes, and that should be credited to Ms. Tsulukiani, and our success in the European Court of Human Rights is also linked to her name. I wish her success in Parliament, and I am confident that her work there will be equally successful and productive," the Prime Minister stated.
