Today, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili held a meeting with Isobel Coleman, USAID Deputy Administrator for Policy and Programming.

The Head of Government thanked Isobel Coleman for visiting Georgia, congratulating her on her appointment, and wishing her success in her future endeavors.

The meeting emphasized that 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and the United States of America, also pointing out the strong strategic partnership between the two countries underpinned by shared values and interests.

The Prime Minister thanked the United States for the unwavering political and practical support provided to Georgia over the past three decades toward the country's democratic empowerment and its shaping into a reliable and capable partner. The Head of Government underlined Georgia as America's closest and most reliable partner in the region committed to furthering strategic partnership in every area of cooperation. Special emphasis was placed on the invaluable contributions of USAID to strengthening Georgia's democratic institutions, and the organization's support for the country's economic growth and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, through a variety of programs.

The meeting also discussed the military action in Ukraine and its consequent dire security situation in the region.

The meeting at the Government Administration was attended by US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Kelly Degnan, USAID Mission Director Peter Wiebler, Special Assistant Emily Green, and the Embassy's Political Officer William Sieber, while the Georgian side was represented by Head of the Government Administration Ilia Darchiashvili.
