Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

In the meeting under the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Head of Government congratulated Alain Berset on his election to the Office of Secretary General of the Council of Europe and wished him success in his future endeavors.

The conversation focused on the productive cooperation between Georgia and the Council of Europe, and the organization's tremendous contribution to the implementation of reforms and toward the country's European integration.

Emphasis was placed on the situation in the occupied territories and the Georgian Government's policy toward peaceful conflict resolution, also on the significance of upgrading the efficiency of the relevant active international mechanisms. The meeting also discussed some of the challenges facing the international community, especially in terms of security. Emphasis was placed on joint efforts and their crucial importance for tackling these challenges. The parties eventually asserted that peace has no alternative.
