The prime minister of Georgia participated in the sixth session of the intergovernmental commission on Georgian-Armenian economic cooperation. The parties reviewed the issues related to the economic cooperation. It was emphasized that cooperation between our two countries will move to the liberal regime only after Armenia meets certain conditions; in particular, simplifies the customs procedures and speeds up modernization process of the customs check-points. In the course of the mentioned changes, restrictions will be lifted over transportation and transit of cargo, mild tax regime will be established and the Open Sky policy will be realized. Negotiations on restoring the Yerevan-Batumi railway route are also underway. After the session, the documents related to cooperation in economic, energy and transportation spheres were signed.
“To begin with, I would like to mention the transportation as well as economic and trade relations between our two countries, which are developing intensively. The Armenian market is of paramount importance to us, which we regard as one of the priority export directions. Similar importance is attributed to the visits of Armenian tourists in Georgia. We are going to develop already existing and new transport communications between our countries; in this regard, development of already existing transport communications (although they need a great deal of rehabilitation) is of great significance.
We also talked about investment of Armenian capital in Georgia. The capital can be invested not only from Armenia, but from Armenian Diaspora as well. The same way, the input of Georgian investments will increase in Armenian economics and the work for facilitating the investor activities has to become more intensive both in Georgia and Armenia, because we regard these two countries as an overall investment area”, – Zurab Noghaideli stated.
Within the framework of the visit, the prime minister of Georgia met the President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharian and the Prime Minister of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.
Zurab Noghaideli visited the Genocide Memorial where he laid a wreath.
