Government of Georgia – Appearance 2008

Staff Changes in the Government

The briefing of the Prime Minister of Georgia was held in the Chancellery on 5 December. Grigol Mgaloblishvili introduced to the audience the decision to make staff changes in the Government of Georgia.

"After my appointment, I asked the President for a time to identified the areas, which required fresh blood in the Government. Until lately, I had consultations with the President as well as with the Chairman of the Parliament and believe that to translate the reforms into life and fulfill the pledges, to further strengthen the Georgian institutes and enhance democracy, it is necessary to make important steps in a few areas. First of all, the change concerns the defense sphere. I'd like to express my thanks to Davit Kezerashvili for his service. He met considerable challenges in a very critical period, but now is the time to work with new energy in these areas. I assign Batu Kutelia to discharge the duties of the Minister.

Considering the challenges facing Georgia today, we must enhance our foreign policy. Georgia is facing a huge machine of the enemy. More experience is needed. I'd like to deeply thank Eka Tkeshelashvili and the Georgian diplomats who met the daunting challenges and difficulties in the critical times for our country. I believe that now it is time for new experience, new energy. For this post, I am nominating Gia Vashadze for the President's approval.

Another sphere that calls for renewal and reform is education. I'd like to thank Gia Nodia for his service and nominate Nika Gvaramia for the post.

It is equally important we develop the area of culture as well. This is the area that will enable us to rise to the challenges facing us. I offered the post of the Minister of Culture to Zurab Abashadze, the person who is well aware of the sphere and who is able to promote Georgian culture also beyond the borders of our country. Zurab Abashidze asked me for a week to ponder about the responsibility because of his family condition. I hope that Mr. Abashidze will agree with us and will take part in forming the new composition of the Government," Grigol Mgaloblishvili said.
