On July 28, in Tamarasheni, meeting of the commission on drafting proposals about defining the status of the former South Osetian Autonomous District within the borders of Georgian state was held. The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli.
At the beginning of the session, Zurab Noghaideli welcomed members of the commission as well as representatives of the Tskhinvali region. According to his words, establishing this commission and launching the session of the commission in Southern Osetia signifies a step forward to restoring Georgia's territorial integrity.
Representatives of Osetian population as well as members of the de-facto government were invited for cooperation with the commission, although we have not received their consent yet.
Zurab Noghaideli asked the head of the provisional administration Dimitri Sanakoev to cooperate actively with the Osetian intelligentsia and the representatives of the public. - "Our position is unshakeable; we stand ready for cooperation with any representative of the region as well as with the Osetian population who live not only in this region but throughout the whole country. Our task is to resolve the conflict through peaceful ways. This is why we have created working-groups and the commission.
Everyone in Georgia should understand that this is the process of healing the wounds, restoration of Georgia's territorial integrity as well as the period of peaceful resolution of the conflicts, which will be brought by us to the final successful end by all means. Along with the Russian government, we also asked representatives of the North Osetian administration to participate in the work of the commission; I hope they will express their consent on this proposal. We have to extend our efforts in two directions: these are strategic questions - distribution of authority between the central and regional administrations and current issues related to actions to be taken in the region in near future. At present it is necessary to create a viable financial system; a treasury as well as the regional tax system should be instituted" - the prime minister stated.
