Prime Minister unveils new Revenues Service, presents head

On 5 March Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli presented Mindia Gadaev, the head of the newly created Revenues Service, to the Finance Ministry. The new agency brings together three now defunct bodies within the Ministry of Finance - the Customs Department, the Tax Department and the Financial Police.

Mindia Gadaev previously held the post of chairman of the Municipal Development Fund and simultaneously was coordinator for the development of regional projects at the Millennium Challenge Fund.

Noghaideli said that the Revenues Service would assume the functions of the three above-mentioned agencies. "I believe that the creation of a single revenues service is a very significant step forward from a structural standpoint because, as the president has frequently said recently, we must not only fulfil the budget revenue targets, but we must also provide better services to taxpayers," he said.
