Zurab Noghaideli Sums Up the Work of the Black Sea Conference

On September 19-20 in Tbilisi at Courtyard Marriott Hotel was held the Black Sea conference "University Preliminary Examinations: Equity, Equality, Availability."

The conference was arranged by the Georgian education and science ministry and National Assessment and Examination Center. The participants included the first persons of education system from the UK, USA, France, Germany, Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, Greece, Slovenia, Sweden, Bulgaria, Moldova, Turkey, Ukraine, Armenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Romania, Azerbaijan, Albania, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, education experts, representatives of international organizations and leading universities of the world as well as Georgian executive and legislative authorities, diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia and rectors of Georgian higher schools.

The main goal of the conference was to inform the participants about the model of the universal national exams and analyze it against the background of the existing international experience. They discussed the effective and fair model of selection of university entrants and importance of availability of higher education.

The Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli summed up the work of the conference and noted: "This conference is of great importance for Georgia. For sue it was the opportunity to share the experience of many countries and our experience with them. Noteworthy is that the model of universal national exams was considered by five countries as admissible for them and they are planning to introduce similar educational reforms in their countries. Naturally, we are pleased that we were the first to carry out this reform and can share our experience with other countries.

All know that the educational reform in Georgia was very successful. We all well know that the uneducated society could not be economically developed, so the educational system if our priority. We will increase the financing of this sphere from year to year. Advancement of the educational level will provide the quicker economic development of Georgia that is our main goal."
