Government of Georgia – Appearance 2006

Visit of Prime Minister of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium Begins

On July 25, the first day of visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli to the Kingdom of Belgium began with the meeting with the Vice-President of European Commission Franco Frattini. At the meeting they discussed some important issues: intensification of cooperation with the European Commission in the following directions - boundary management that includes establishment of boundary service and control. The discussion also touched the perspective of entering into the agreement on free trade with the European Union. At the same time will be prolonged the work with the European Union in connection with the facilitation of entry on the territory of the Union for some categories of Georgian citizens (businessmen, diplomats, students).

Today the Prime Minister also met the ambassador of the United States to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Victoria Nuland and discussed with her the state of Euro-Atlantic integration and perspective of Georgia. Victoria Nuland said that NATO keeps vigilant watch over the current democratic reforms in Georgia. The Alliance members understand those results attained by Georgia in the short period. This may be one of the prerequisites of intensification of relations between NATO and Georgia. In his turn Zurab Noghaideli noted that the reforms started in the country are irreversible and Georgia is ready to pass all those steps which will favor the membership of Georgia in NATO.

On the second day of his visit the Prime Minister will attend the meeting of North Atlantic Council. The meeting with the NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer is also planned.
