Prime Minister Meets EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus

On July 22, Saturday, the Prime Minister of Georgia Mr. Zurab Noghaideli at the Chancellery of the Government received EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Mr. Peter Semneby.

At the meeting they discussed the important issues of Georgia-EU relations. Zurab Noghaideli expressed his pleasure of the last statement of the Commission of Europe in connection with the situation in Georgia, where it is given the support of the main directions of policy of the Georgian state authorities.

When discussing the current reforms in Georgia the prime Minister underlines that the country is successfully implements the process of institutionalization where the quality of operation of this or that institution in the country less depends on a person who heads this institution. Zurab Noghaideli spoke about the course of judicial reform. He noted that the special commission had developed a plan which provides the fundamental reforming and enhancement of all spheres in this direction subject to the time and cost.

The conversation also regarded the process of regulation of conflict in Tskhinvali Region. Zurab Noghaideli underscored that the approach of the Georgian authorities in respect of the existing conflicts on the territory of Georgia is one and the same and implies resolution only in peaceful way. He said, however, that the uncontrolled territories on the territory of Georgia are the centers of criminals and terrorists and threatens the stability of the whole region. It was noted that the latest provocations in Tskhinvali region are aimed at the procrastination of the peaceful process and that the top priority for provision of stability in the region is demilitarization of the region. The Prime Minister also stated that the facts show that the peacekeepers avoid execution of their mandate.
