On March 27, 2007 was held the Meeting of the Government of Georgia. The agenda included 38 items.
Upon the beginning of the Meeting the Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli provided to the members of the Government the specified information that the amount of direct investments implemented in Georgia last year amounted to one billion 148 million USD. According to the investor-countries the first three places are held by the UK, USA and Kazakhstan. The Prime Minister of Georgia noted that this year the amount of investments shall increase up to 1.5-1.7 billion USD, or 21% of the gross domestic product and will provide for the rapid growth of the economy development. Therefore, we shall have the well estimated plan of actions for attraction of the investment capital. He said that this commission was given to the ministry of economic development which will produce the respective plan at the regular Meeting of the Government.
The Prime Minister of Georgia attracted attention to one issue more. Namely, he highlighted the issue of growth of transportation of goods via the South Caucasus corridor. He said that past week was held negotiations with the Turkmenistan party and next week this issue will be considered with the Azeri and Kazakh colleagues. Finally all problems shall be solved in such a way that the South Caucasus corridor be not only the shortest but the most effective and cheapest transport route for goods traffic from Europe to Central Asia and vice versa and in the perspective - from Europe to the countries of Far East.
