Meeting of the 25 October 2006

The Meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 25 October 2006. The Agenda consisted of 19 items.

At the commencement of the Meeting, Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli briefed the Government members that at the beginning of that week Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Gela Bezhuashvili and Minister of Energy of Georgia Nika Gilauri had been on a visit to Teheran. They had held talks with the Iranian side over the supply of electricity and gas to Georgia. He pointed out that an agreement had been reached not only to supply electricity to Georgia but also to address the electricity generation problems of the country in future. The talks over gas supply would be continued and were expected to end by the end of the year. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the fact that

Georgia is forming the new ways of supply and exchange of electricity and gas.
The Prime Minister of Georgia also pointed out that due to the sanctions imposed on Georgia by Russia, for the last 20-25 days the country had encountered logistical problems in terms of import of various products, including wheat to Georgia. As a result of the measures taken and the effective work performed by the competent authorities of Georgia, those problems would be solved in the nearest future and the situation in supplying the country with wheat and other products would become stable again.
