The Meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 18 October 2006. The Agenda consisted of 27 items.
At the commencement of the Meeting, Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli briefed the Government members on the statement that the European Union had issued on 17 October in connection with the recent developments in the Georgia-Russian relations. He said: This is a very important statement for us and for all the countries that have embarked on the way of democratic development. It means that the European Union will not ignore the events of open harassment of one country by the other. It is not the sanctions, which are outrageous but the attitude to Georgia and Georgians that is encouraged by the top government officials of Russia. It is particularly sad that one of our compatriots died due to the abnormal and inhuman conditions created in the course of deportation. I am sure that the entire international community will raise a voice against this specific fact. Otherwise, all that is happening in Russia today will hold out and affect not only Georgians but others as well.
The Prime Minister of Georgia assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice to provide the conditions for all the Georgian citizens deported from Russia to obtain the relevant documents without any problem, in an expedited manner. The economic block of the Government was assigned to meet the social needs of the deportees. The Prime Minister of Georgia also assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Economic Development of Georgia to daily keep their representatives, one each, in the Information Center of Tbilisi Mayor's Office with the duty to provide the Georgian citizens deported from Russia with the necessary information.
By decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia, State Minister of Georgia Kakha Bendukidze was assigned to coordinate the process.
