Meeting of the 23 August 2006

The Meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 23 August 2006. The Agenda consisted of 38 items.

At the beginning of the Meeting, Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli informed the audience that a pretty interesting meeting within the framework of the employment program had been held on 22 August with the representatives of the construction sector. At the meeting, they had discussed the construction works to be done in the following year under the state budget and under private budgets. The Prime Minister of Georgia reminded the audience of the initiative of the President of Georgia, according to which it was very important to provide on-job training to skilled workers, and expressed hope that the construction sector would be a core component of the employment program. He said that throughout that week they would continue meeting with the representatives of the service and other sectors to make sure that all the organizational issues were addressed in time to launch the program from the mid September as planned.

The Prime Minister of Georgia underscored the coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia in providing help to the Georgian citizens injured in the road accident in Samsun, Turkey. He stressed that all the injured persons had been transferred in Georgia and were provided with intensive care. The Prime Minister of Georgia assigned the Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia Vladimer Chipashvili to provide a detailed report of the situation at the nearest Government meeting.

The Prime Minister of Georgia expressed thanks to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the staff members of other agencies, local government authorities and all who had taken part in extinguishing the fire in Adigeni Region in mid August, underscoring the importance of their coordinated and effective works to that end. In conclusion, the Prime Minister of Georgia said that he personally intended to travel to Adigeni Region to study the situation there on 24 August.
