Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2006 Year

Meeting of the 26 April 2006

The Meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 26 April 2006. The Agenda consisted of 24 items.

At the beginning of the Meeting, Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli said that after Russia had increased price on gas at the end of 2005, the outlays on the energy sector had increased dramatically. He said: during the winter we kept the current electricity consumption rate down at the expense of nearly 100 million Lari in subsidies from the state budget. We cannot let this go on for good. Unfortunately, we have to increase the electricity consumption rate. By instruction from the President of Georgia, we must develop an instrument by which the less you consumer, the less you pay. The Prime Minister of Georgia underscored that it was important to keep the electricity consumption rate the same for the vulnerable population and continue subsidizing that category of people. For that purpose, nearly 30 million Lari would be additionally allocated from the budget.

The Prime Minister of Georgia informed the members of the Government that Giorgi Baramidze, a member of the Government, would be assigned to discharge the duties of the Vice-Premier of Georgia.
