Meeting of the 12 April 2006

The Meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 12 April 2006. The Agenda consisted of 27 items.

At the beginning of the Meeting, Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli informed the Government members that at the end of that week, the representatives of the Georgian wine-making industry would travel to Moscow to meet importers, distributors and the representatives of the official authorities of Russia to discuss the situation related to the prohibition of the import of Georgian wines to Russia. Moscow would also host a group of Georgian experts under the supervision of Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Mikheil Svimonishvili to hold consultations with the official representatives of the Russian Federation. The Prime Minister said that the goal of the Government of Georgia was to settle the problem through consultations in order to avoid confrontation, possible complications, and expressed hope that the representatives of the official structures of Russia would be disposed in the same way.

The Prime Minister of Georgia said that meanwhile they were working quite hard towards exporting Georgian wines to the markets of various countries or towards increasing the volume of export. He said that under his patronage, a special competition would be organized in Georgia on 11-12 May with the purpose to demonstrate Georgian wines as premium-quality products.
