Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2006 Year

Meeting of the 5 April 2006

The Meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 5 April 2006. The Agenda consisted of 21 items.

At the briefing held after the Government Meeting, Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli stated that due to the existing situation, a plan had been developed in connection with the export of Georgian wines and wine products to Russia: first of all, it's about quickly completing the suspension of the certification system, putting newly created laboratories into operation, and completing the setup of the infrastructure of the system within one week. Besides, the decision had been made to defer the tax obligations of the wine sector for three months. That would afford a certain financial relief to them, with the opportunity to target more money towards gaining new markets or return to the Russian market that was very important.

Together with the Moldavian colleagues, the Association of Winemakers would file a lawsuit in the Russian court to make sure that the positions of Georgian winemakers are protected from a legal standpoint as well.

The Prime Minister of Georgia also said: within the next one month, we'll focus on returning to the Russian market and also on strengthening the export potential to the markets of Ukrain and Kazakhstan. Today, the President meets winemakers to discuss our action plan in detail.
We'll also discuss the concept of water resources. The floods occurring recently have reassured us of the need to manage river basins. The decision has already been made. Now we are working on technical details. In the nearest future, the Ministry of Environmental Protection will come up with the relevant proposals.
