Government of Georgia – Appearance 2009

Prime Minister Presents New Minister of Economic Development Print Version

Prime Minister Presents New Minister of Economic Development On 26 August 2009 today, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri of Georgia presented Zurab Pololikashvili as the new Minister of Economic Development of Georgia.

"It is a great honour for me to present new Minister Zurab Pololikashvili to the public and to the Ministry of Economic Development. For recent months he has served in the Embassy of Georgia in Spain. I can say that he has been one of the successful ambassadors in the history of Georgia. He has built up our relationship with Spain from scrapes. We are expecting certain investments from Spain in the nearest future and that is the result of this relationship. Zurab has quite distinguished himself in dealing with investors. Besides, it is important that for 7 years Zurab worked in the private sector, namely in TBC Bank and is well aware of the ins and outs of the private sector as well as of the concerns of the private sector. In our opinion and in the President's opinion, he is going to be the person who can best handle the problems in the Georgian economy. I'd like to recount what I mean: this is privatization, attraction of investors, active work active work with foreign investors, and settlement of the problems of the private sector. I'd like to add that Zurab is a polyglot, speaking several languages that can help us in building relationships with investors. Besides, what I'd like to assign the Ministry of Economic Development in general and Zurab in particular is a very active and coordinated work with other Ministries. As the Ministry of Economic Development is to a certain extent a mediator, in comparison with all the other sectors, the healthcare, agriculture and energy sectors do much right through the Ministry of Economic Development. I'd like to conclude that the core goal during Zurab's service as the Minister of Economic development is going to be attraction of investments, working with the private sector and building relationships with foreign investors and one of the main goals - boosting privatization proceeds by the Ministry of Economic Development," Nika Gilauri said.
