Meeting of the Government in Poti as of March 24, 2010 The Meeting of Government was held in Poti on 24 March 2010. The Agenda covered 26 issues.

Prime Minister of Georgia Nika Gilauri visited Poti Free Industrial Zone where construction is being performed by Rakeen Georgia. The terminal construction must be completed in May.

"Preparatory works are being completed. As the representatives of Rakeen Georgia pledge, the Free Industrial Zone will have already be formed at the end of May where various companies will have the opportunity to build their enterprises. Impressively enough, 22 contracts have already been made, which means that 22 licenses have been granted to various companies that will come and establish new enterprises, create new jobs. It is equally important to note that these companies come from various countries, including Iran, Armenia, Azerbaijan, United Arab Emirates, South Korea. Among them is LG, a TV and household appliance manufacturer, that has signed a contract with Free Industrial Zone. One of LG companies will build its enterprise here", said Nika Gilauri after his visit to Poti Port.

Before the beginning of the Government Meeting, the Prime Minister of Georgia touched upon the important projects being implemented in Poti this year, and discussed the city water supply and gas supply issues and solutions with the Ministers.

"The core topic of today's Government Meeting is the development of Poti and the problems affecting eh population in the city.

I'd like to tell you that a few minutes ago the Government members and I visited Poti Free Industrial Zone. This is where the FIZ infrastructure construction is now underway. The first stage is expected to be completed in May (2010). At this point, nearly 100 people are employed in the construction process... It is impressive that companies have already obtained licenses for starting business in Poti Free Industrial Zone. They intend to build their enterprises, factories and create jobs in Poti Free Industrial Zone. I mean several thousands of jobs..."

We hope the Free Industrial Zone will have become fully operational by the end of this year.

Besides, there are a few important projects being implemented in Poti this year. These projects are aimed at resolving the issues pertaining to road construction, water supply and sewage in Poti.

Another important project is the construction of an international airport. As we know, the contract has already been signed.
Local roads affect the population and this is what first gets to your eyes," Nika Gilauri said.

As soon as the Government Meeting started in Poti, Davit Tkeshelashvili, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, presented Poti Water Supply Improvement Measures to the Ministers and the public.
