Meeting of the Government as of April 24, 2010 The meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 24 April 2010. The agenda consisted of 95 items.

Prior to the meeting the Georgian Prime-Minister Nika Gilauri focused upon the several issues.

Please be advised with the speech delivered by the Prime Minister:

"I want to furnish the society and the Government members with the information.

First, I want to talk about the outcomes of Quarter I. We already have certain information on economic activity of the first quarter. Of course, the said figures are not final.

One of main points of the gross domestic product increase is the index of turnover of VAT payers. And this very index has the closest correlation with the economic activity. If we compare this January with the last year January, the increase is 12%, and if we compare this February with the last year February the increase is 17%, and March - to - March - increase is 23%, i.e. we observe a very good trend of economic activity growth. The average data of Quarter I is 17% increase.

As to VAT and GDP, as you know, the initial figure in this year budget is 2% increase. And increase of the gross domestic product in 2001 is expected to be much higher. If we analyze the Quarter I outcomes, 2010 year GDP increase will be 3-5%. This factor is very positive and good moment for the Georgian economy.

We'll be able to advise us of final figures at the turn of May. The Statistics Department needs this period to calculate and sum up the final outcomes.

I also want to talk about another issue - Cheremi water reservoir. Citizens face a huge problem due to heavy rain. up to 600 families were evacuated. Regional Development Minister, Minister of Agriculture, Environmental Minister are currently there. They control the situation.
We'll provide additional information on Velistsikhe Village, Gurjaani Region (later).
