Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2010 Year

Meeting of the Government as of June 10, 2010

Meeting of the Government as of June 10, 2010 The meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 10 June 2010. The agenda consisted of 79 items.

Prior to the meeting, the Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri talked about the new Tax Code:

"I want the audience to pay attention to the new Tax Code anew. The objective of our Government, economic policy, as you know, is built on one main thing - maximum support of private sector, make the private sector to be leading, create jobs and, thus, combat unemployment.

It transpired that the key problem is still the Tax Code. During the last years, last 2-3 years, many changes were made to the Tax Code.

It turned out that the basis of the Tax Code is very obsolete. Thus, we offer a completely new instrument.

During the last months we worked together with the private sector. Thus, a completely new document is presented to the Georgian society for consideration.

I ask everybody, a businessman, an investor, or any party concerned to read this new document thoroughly, with maximum attention and present their remarks and views.

This instrument will bring many good and positive novelties to the private sector. For example, adoption of micro business concept, small business concept, preliminary decision-making concept. i.e., a businessman will be able to apply to the Finance Ministry, put a question to it and upon receipt of a response therefrom, use this answer lawfully, which no one will be able to dispute.

The new Tax Code covers many such changes which will promote development of the private sector to the maximum extent.
I want to emphasize that this process should be the most transparent. We want maximum number of people to be involved in this process and every party concerned to express their views and remarks.

The Code is already available on the web-site of the Finance Ministry and on the web-site of the Government - www.georgia.gov.ge. Everyone can read this document and e-mail their remarks via Internet.

Today we'll discuss this document at the Meeting of the Government. We hope that in the next 2-3 weeks we'll be able to send this document to the Parliament. The work over it will be continued in the Parliament until the final document is adopted in the Parliament at the third hearing.

And again I want to ask everyone to be involved in the process of building this Tax Code with maximum attention and we'll do our best to consider your remarks and views", said the Prime-Minister.
