WORK GROUP MEETINGS OF THE INTER-AGENCY COMMISSION GET CHAIRED BY ASSISTANT TO THE PRIME MINISTER OF GEORGIA Print Version

Sophie Japaridze, Assistant to the Prime Minister of Georgia on Human Rights and Gender Equality has chaired a series of Work Group Meetings held by the Inter-Agency Commission on Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence at the Government Administration.

Work Group Meetings have focused on the implementation of Action Plans for 2018-2020 in view of two Government Action Plans; Resolution of the UN Security Council on Peace and Security; fight against violence against women and domestic violence, along with measures to be implemented for the protection of victims (and affected individuals).

Work Group Meetings were attended by experts engaged in the operation of the Inter-Agency Commission by the respective government institutions.

Major part of the meetings was dedicated to the aims and goals of the Action Plans, review of information on the status of compliance with such aims and goals. In addition, Work Groups have discussed the challenges and prospects of cooperation among the government agencies to mitigate the difficulties.

Work Group Meetings were discussing a successful experience accumulated within the integration of security measures in the gender policy; fight against violence against women and domestic violence, a number of fundamental changes successfully carried out by the law-enforcement bodies, improved state service delivery to victims of violence; measures implemented for public awareness within the competent authorities and general public.

Composition of the Work Groups within the Inter-Agency Commission focusing on violence against women and domestic violence was adjusted in the beginning of 2019. As a result, government agencies nominated subject-specific responsible officials to represent them. Referred process is aimed at the increased engagement of line ministries in the performance of the Inter-Agency Commission and effective coordination of its operation.
