Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2011 Year

Meeting of the Government as of March 11, 2011

Meeting of the Government as of March 11, 2011 On March 11, 2011 was held the meeting of the Georgian Government. The agenda included 56 items.

Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, talked about the economic issues of the last week. We present the Prime Minister's speech:

"Good day. Before we start discussing the issues on the agenda, I would like to comment on the events of the last week, concerning mainly the economy and investment environment. Increase of credit rating of Georgia by Fitch was very important. Fitch is one of the three major organizations defining credit ratings of different countries. It is also very important that in most cases, (these organizations) have reduced credit ratings of different countries, including European countries, during the past few months. For Georgia, they have increased it from B+ Stable to B+ Positive. This means that investment environment in Georgia has become more attractive for world investors. In the future, it will be possible for the government and Georgian companies to attract funds from international financial organizations more simply. During the past days, meetings with investors in New York, as well as meetings of the Ministers of Finance and Economy with investors in Mumbai were very important. We see that investors have great interest in making investments in Georgia...

A positive message to world investors is an agreement signed with Donald Trump, according to which, Donald Trump will carry out constructions in Georgia, specifically, in Batumi and Tbilisi. This is a great and positive advertisement for the country and a very positive signal for different investors conducting their activities in Georgia or having desire to visit our country.

I would like to make one more statement with respect to the Agrarian Policy Commission. There are several commissions of different types under the government and the Prime Minister: Commissions of transport, energy, water. I would like to create an Agrarian Policy Commission where we could invite experts, governors, members of the Parliament. Bakur (Kvezereli) will be one of the key members of this commission. He shall submit a list of experts whom the commission is necessary to be formed by. We will conduct the first meeting in the nearest days. The commission will work very intensively in order that we could present specific plans and specific steps about what we are going to do to develop agrarian policy."
