Prime Minister visits Turkey

Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri and the Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip ErdoğanOn May 8-10 of 2011, Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, visited Turkey.

On May 9, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, participated in the fourth conference on less developed countries arranged by the United Nations OrganizaPrime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri and the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moontion in Istanbul. "One of the issues is reforms carried out in Georgia. The conference concerns developing countries. How reforms implemented in Georgia can become an example for other countries, how such reforms can be carried out in other countries and how Georgia can become an exporter of the reforms," declared Nika Gilauri during the conference.

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri met with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, face to face. Nika Gilauri declared: "at this stage, Geneva negotiations represent the format according to which we have relations with Russia, in which we enjoy the great support of the UN. It will be very important to expand Geneva negotiations and take steps according to Geneva format; we have support of the UN in this direction as well."

"Turkey is one of our strategic partners and a main trading partner. There are many issues we are concerned about and that we shall discuss together. We talked about energy projects, investments made by Turkish company in the energy system of Georgia, especially, in construction of 500 kv transmission line, as well as the contract to be executed between Georgia aThe Prime Minister visits Turkeynd Turkey on commercial management of the 500 kv transmission line. We agreed on joint management of Sarpi Customs. The Prime Minister, Erdoğan, is visiting Georgia on May 31, and Sarpi Customs will be inaugurated on that date," declared Nika Gilauri after the meeting.

Within the framework of the visit, the Prime Minister of Georgia met with the President of Turkey, Abdullah Gül. The parties discussed the issues of cooperation in the energy sector and Turkish investments in Georgia. The President of Turkey will visit Georgia at the end of May.
