The Prime Minister inspects mowing works in Racha Print Version

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Vano Merabishvili, visited Racha Region, where he inspected mowing works carried out at Khikhamta Village mowing plots of land and met with local population. During the meeting, the Prime Minister talked about development of cattle-breeding, within the framework of a new government plan More Profit to the People, and importance of obtaining and producing hay by means of modern technique, on alpine mowing plots of land, like Khikhamta, in this process. During his speech, Vano Merabishvili pointed out that cattle-breeding is one of the leading fields in Racha Region and thus, it requires particular support. The Prime Minister emphasized that strong peasant means strong Georgia.

Khikhamta Village is located at 2,000 meters from sea level covering 3,000 hectares of land area. This year, rehabilitation of road to Khikhamta has been implemented, which gives an opportunity to introduce agricultural technique to mowing plots of land. This is planned to cultivate 1,000 hectares of land this year, which consequently provides for producing 1,000-1,500 tons of pressed hay. Raw material and pressed hay received will satisfy demand of Racha-Lechkhumi, Lower Svaneti and partially, Imereti Regions, during the whole winter period. Seven units of modern technique works on Khikhamta territory. Seasonally, 60 local persons will be employed in the project.
