The Prime Minister continues inspection of agricultural sites in Guria Region Print Version

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Vano Merabishvili, who visits Guria along with other members of the government, within the framework of a three-day visit, continues to inspect infrastructure and agricultural sites in the Region.

Today, the Prime Minister has got acquainted with rehabilitation works of a main drainage channel at Nigvziana Village in Lanchkhuti Municipality. According to representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, after arrangement of the drainage channel, 200 families will be able to cultivate 150 hectares of land in their ownership. During inspection of rehabilitation works, the Prime Minister emphasized that rehabilitation of drainage channels and irrigation systems is carried out within the whole country and drainage system will be arranged at 35,000 hectares during the next four years, within the framework of a new government program More Profit to the People

After visiting Nigvziana Village, the Prime Minister inspected kiwi plantation established at Georgian-Jewish initiative at Supsa Village. The kiwi plantation is cultivated at 30 hectares of land. There are 30 people stably employed in this plantation, which has been operating successfully for three years; in seasons, number of employees grows up to 100 people. Representatives of enterprise are planning to get 1,200 tons of harvest this year.

The Prime Minister has got detailed information about cultivation kiwi in Georgia and prospects of its further export. The Prime Minister emphasized necessity of support of manufacturing production of high demand on the world market in Georgia, at kiwi example. 

This very day, the Prime Minister has got acquainted with operation of nuts exporting company in Ozurgeti. The company, where 170 local people are employed, receives raw material from local people as well, processes 45 tons of nuts daily and exports products in Europe, including German and Czech markets.
