Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2014 Year

Meeting of the Government as March 28, 2014

Government session was held on March 28, 2014. 31 issues were discussed according to the agenda today, 3 issues were added and 34 issues were approved.

The Prime Minister of Georgia initiates to write in constitution that a family is a unity of a man and a woman. Irakli Garibashvili applied to the State Constitutional Commission with this initiative at the beginning of the Government session. According to the estimation of the Prime Minister, anti-discrimination bill reflects Georgian people's tradition of tolerance, according to which people with different religious, ethnicity and different way of life have been living peacefully side by side for centuries.
"As it is possible different approaches to arise and speculating on this issue should not happen, I am proposing to write in constitution that a family is a union of a man and a woman. Latvia did so and Croatia too, last year before joining the European Union. Despite the fact that the current law already defines marriage as a union of a woman and a man, in order not to misunderstand, I think, existence of such constitutional post is preferable. This law does not create a new type of right for anyone; it does not give any type of privileges to any group of society. The law only provides equal benefit from the right, which is already provided by the Constitution of Georgia for everyone", - said the Prime Minister.

Anti-discrimination bill will be sent to the Parliament for consideration in the near future.
Today, the cabinet members discussed the State Program to Promote the Improvement of the Demographic Situation, in which, more than third or third child to the family shall be provided with a monthly monetary assistance. The mentioned program will refer to the following regions in 2014: Guria, Imereti, kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Racha-Lechkhum-Kvemo Svaneti.
