At today's meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Jānis Zlamets, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Georgia, congratulates Georgia on the agreement on the suspension mechanism reached between the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament.

According to the diplomat, the progress achieved in relation to the suspension mechanism is important for granting Georgian citizens visa-free travel.
The Latvian Ambassador also congratulated Giorgi Kvirikashvili on victory in the recent parliamentary elections and his reappointment as Prime Minister, also wishing him success in his future endeavors.

The conversation also involved ways of further deepening the bilateral relations between the countries and issues pertaining to Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration. The Prime Minister emphasized Georgia's appreciation of the Republic of Latvia for its support on the country's path to European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to prospects of developing trade and economic relations, and the positive dynamics in this direction were emphasized. The important role of the Intergovernmental Economic Commission in developing the economic relations between the countries was also pointed out. The commission will hold its next meeting in Tbilisi, in 2017.
