Prime Minister Congratulates Georgia on UNESCO Granting Enhanced Protection to Mtskheta’s Historical Monuments

The Prime Minister of Georgia congratulates Georgia on the occasion of UNESCO granting enhanced protection to Mtskheta's historical monuments. There are only ten sites in the world enjoying this status, Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated at today's government meeting.
"This protection is granted only to the monuments that are exceptionally valuable to humankind. Therefore, I once again congratulate you on this extremely important decision," the Prime Minister stated.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili thanked all state institutions, namely the Ministries of Culture, Defense, Interior, Foreign Affairs, and Justice and the Administration of the Government, for their active engagement in the relevant decision-making process.
According to the Prime Minister, 2016 has been an important year marking the recognition of Georgia's cultural heritage by UNESCO.
"In July, Mtskheta's historical monuments were removed from UNESCO's list for world heritage monuments in danger and returned to the general world heritage list. In addition, on November 30, UNESCO granted the Georgian alphabet a status of a monument of intangible cultural heritage, which is yet another global recognition of our alphabet, Georgian culture, history, and identity. Once again, congratulations on this important occasion," the Prime Minister stated.
