Two Cooperatives to Receive 25-Year Lease on Over 1,200 Hectares of Hayfields and Pastures in Kaspi and Tsageri Print Version

2018-02-15

As you know, we have launched a new state program designed rationally to use state-owned hayfields and pastures in the country's mountainous areas. This programs seeks to improve the economic conditions of the rural population and to stop migration from the mountainous areas. To this end, at today's Government meeting, we are proposing to grant a 25-year lease on over 1,200 hectares of hayfields and pastures to two agricultural cooperatives bringing together 43 local households with more than 400 heads of cattle. In addition, these families will be assured that the pastures will not be alienated in one form or another, being allocated to the two cooperatives.

This process will continue, of course, as an incentive for rural cooperatives, cattle-breeding in this particular case. We already have success stories in this direction, and I once again bring up the positive experience of Blauenstein, a joint Swiss-Georgian company. We will use this experience on a regular basis in relation to Georgia's mountainous regions.
