2018-08-29

Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia is dissatisfied with the quality of resort infrastructure and preparedness. Hence, last warning is given to individuals responsible for this cluster. As Head of the Government of Georgia stated prior to the Executive Government Meeting today, sharp increase of the number of tourists may not serve as an excuse and resorts need to be adequately prepared to cater the increased inflow of visitors.

"We are not satisfied with the degree of readiness observed at resorts in summer and we are neither happy with the level of preparedness in Bakuriani and Gudauri that we witnessed in winter. We all understand it well and feel joy when the number of tourists keeps increasing, however it may not be an excuse, as resorts need to be well prepared to cater this truly high flow. Therefore, everyone who is physically engaged in the upgrade of infrastructure and degree of preparedness, is hereby given the last warning to avoid such malpractice in future. This warning applies to people who bear official responsibility on this issue. Resorts need to have an adequate readiness, especially when we talk about high season, when the intensity of tourist inflow keeps increasing. I do not wish to list individual names here, as this issue applies to many people and agencies. I am confident that our degree of preparedness will be much higher in winter as well as in the coming summer" stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Head of the Government of Georgia noted that Cabinet of Ministers will discuss the issue of additional funding to be allocated for the further upgrade of resort infrastructure in Georgia.

Namely, Kobi-Gudauri ski slopes will be upgraded, temporary systems will be installed to avoid avalanches in winter; old boulevard in Ureki hamlet will be rehabilitated, while the construction works will be launched for setting up a new boulevard; central, circular pedestrian track will be rehabilitated in Bakuriani hamlet.

"Bakuriani should by all means turn into a four season destination and therefore all the referred infrastructure projects, similar to the extension of a parking lot in the vicinity of Didveli should be completed in the due course. Also, Didi Mitarbi cable-car access motorway will be rehabilitated. Kobuleti coastline will be reinforced and arranged in an accelerated manner. Total cost of the referred works is almost 20 MLN GEL" concluded the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Head of the Government of Georgia recalled his recent visit to Racha and noted that infrastructure projects are progressing with good speed and according to the pre-defined schedule of works. However, it is essential to build not only roads of central, but of local importance in a more efficient manner and scale.

"Hence, Executive Government Meeting will discuss today an issue of rural road rehabilitation in 12 municipalities with a total budget of almost 80 MLN GEL" stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.
