"Judiciary is an independent wing of the authority, however - at the same time - society and each of us should have a feeling that objective criteria and procedures exist for the selection of judges" stated Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia in response to a question posed by a Georgian student at the Vilnius University today.

According to the Head of Government of Georgia, position of the ruling political team is very clear and certain - criteria and procedures for the nomination of judges should be defined with the engagement of all of us in the country.

"As for the engagement of the Government, I have made a very direct statement on this at multiple occasions. Time has gone in Georgia when Government, Prime Minister or any high ranking official actually selected judges or "fixed" the system. Such malpractices will no longer be happening in Georgia. Of course, judiciary is an independent wing of the authority, however - at the same time - society and each of us should have a feeling that objective criteria and procedures exist for the selection of judges. This is the position of our political team and we have a very direct dialogue with the society about it" concluded the Prime Minister of Georgia.
