The Georgian Prime Minister's official visit to the Republic of Bulgaria started with a face-to-face meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart. Today, Boyko Borisov hosted Mamuka Bakhtadze at the Council of Ministers of Bulgaria.
The parties discussed every key direction of Georgia-Bulgaria bilateral relations, prospects related to the Black Sea Region, and the potential of deeper trade and economic cooperation.
The meeting commended the positive dynamic in bilateral trade and Bulgaria's advancement to the list of Georgia's top ten trade partners.
The Prime Ministers also welcomed the effective work of the Georgia-Bulgaria Intergovernmental Commission that has brought about tangible results in terms of economic, scientific, and technical cooperation.
After the meeting, enhanced-format negotiations were held with the participation of the Government members of the two countries. The parties discussed in detail the unique opportunities of the Black Sea and the advantages offered by the unique geographic locations of Georgia and Bulgaria. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of fully tapping into the transport potential, especially in the area of ferrying.
The conversation also touched on the successful cooperation between the two countries in multilateral formats. The Georgian side thanked the Bulgarian colleagues for their contribution to the process of Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Georgia's progress on this path was singled out, and so was the unprecedentedly high dynamic in the country's cooperation with NATO and the EU.
The meeting also paid attention to the regional state of affairs and the dire situation in Georgia's occupied territories. Mamuka Bakhtadze thanked the Government of Bulgaria for firmly supporting Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Chair
The enhanced-format meeting was attended by Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani, Chair of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, also Head of the Friendship Group with the Bulgarian Parliament Sopio Katsarava, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva, and the Deputy Ministers of Economy of the two countries.
